A Real Guitar Hero
14 Yr. Old Breaks World Record for Highest Score on Guitar Hero

Danny Johnson of Grapevine, Texas, just crushed the standing Guinness World Record for the highest score in Guitar Hero III. His score of 973,954 easily surpassed the standing record of 899,703, which had been set by a Minnesota 17 year old in 2008. Apparently with nerves of steel, the Guitar Hero ‘phenom’ performed his feat under the glare of the media and public in midtown Manhattan at a media event sponsored by the Guinness Book of World Records Gamer’s Edition. He played a nearly seven minute heavy metal song titled “Through the Fire and Flames” by DragonForce that has so many notes it is the game’s most difficult song to play. In fact, Danny nearly accomplished another amazing feat when he came close – within seconds – of playing all 3,722 of the song’s notes flawlessly, but a button on the game’s plastic controller broke off after 3,558 perfect notes played.

Danny’s mad skills have earned him an endorsement deal with a gaming promoter and cultivated such an interest in him that he stars in a regular live webcast, which refers to him as the Guitar Hero “phenom.” It seems that the only downside to Danny’s skills is the number of plastic guitar game controllers that he goes through in a short time period since they were not designed for such intense, expert play. He says that he has gone through nearly 80 controllers in one nine month period.

If you are thinking that Danny is just a typical video-game addicted slacker with no parental supervision, you would be farthest from the truth. He is home-schooled, fluent in several languages and an accomplished at several musical instruments including the piano, drums, saxophone, oboe – and of course, the Guitar. Wow Danny, you rock.
