Its an exclusive club, that no one is desperate to join but everyone fears leaving because cancer survivors know there is only one way forfeit membership. Each year hundreds of thousands of people live with, battle, and survive cancer. One woman’s journey was particularly hard; Natalie Kreutzer was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2004 fighting it successfully with chemotherapy only to be diagnosed with colon cancer just 3 short years later. There is no question she is a survivor, but her story only begins with cancer; it continues with ‘Chemo-Karaoke,” as she has dubbed it.
Chemo-Karaoke was created in the throes if this music teacher’s battle with cancer. It began with a little jingle sang to the tune of an old song titled “Music, Music, Music,” except that Natalie replaced “Music” with “Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate” because that’s what her oncology nurse constantly repeated to her when she complained about the harsh side effects of the chemo. She wrote an entire song about the importance of staying hydrated and as it turned out, that song cheered her up as well as help remind her of this critical task. Pretty soon she started entertaining her nurses during hospital stays. Other catchy tunes followed, and some nurses While Natalie does have a music background, the production quality of the tracks are not commercial grade and her voice lacks a certain richness in tone, but the sentiment and insightful purpose of her tracks far exceed their entertainment value. The tracks were written with the goal of informing, titillating, empathizing with, and most all getting those lyrics stuck in its listeners brains; it does all that.
