Known simply as “Glitter Girl,” 25 yr old Alexis Cohen was the victim of a fatal hit-and-run accident in Seaside Heights, NJ last weekend. Cohen was allegedly leaving a bar named Hemingway’s when she was struck and killed allegedly by Daniel Bark, who police say struck Cohen while attempting to flee police after he had struck another car. Bark has been charged with death by reckless driving and is reportedly planning to plead not guilty.

Cohen’s claim to fame during the American Idol season 7 and 8 auditions is her weirdly charming, oddly moving, expletive-laden rants following her dismissal by the judges, and of course, excessive use of glitter. Mtv.com reports that numerous online tributes have been erected in Cohen’s honor and Paula Abdul and Ryan Seacrest have publicly offered their condolences to the Cohen family. Cohen’s mother also told MTV.com that Cohen had auditioned for Idol’s ninth season this past June in which she sang Madonna’s “Like A Prayer.”

While not an online tribute to Cohen, comedy duo Rhett & Link produced a youtube video in January of 2008 honoring Cohen’s tirade as “One of the Most Beautiful Exit Speeches in American Idol History.” For those of you who are not familiar with Ms. Cohen’s work, this video serves both as a succinct display of her work, and insight into her appeal as a personality.
