Killer Karaoke is Coming to the U.S.

A new karaoke inspired television show called “Killer Karaoke” is slated to air on TruTV early this year. The show is based on a U.K. show called “ Sing if you Can.” That show gets celebrities to sing a tune while being “distracted.” Think of it as a combination of American Idol and Fear Factor. Distractions on the U.K. show include knife-throwing, snakes, popping balloons, a spinning stage, break dancers, and the simple fear of distraction.

We took the liberty of peeking in on the U.K. version (see video) and one episode featured British actress Roxanne Pallett, a stunning brunette most famous for her role on a soap opera called “Emmerdale.” The video was captivating as we watched a surprisingly courageous Pallett step through some real – shall we say- “challenges” as she tried to sing. I found myself routing for her. The host of the show is hilarious – the kind of guy you want at your bachelor party – except his attire and grooming habits scream 1978, so don’t be fooled, the show was filmed in 2011.

There is no word yet on whether “Killer Karaoke” will follow the exact same format as its British counterpart which features celebrities such as Pallett that go through the gauntlet in the name of charity.

Steve O of “Jackass” and “Wildboyz” fame will host the series and promises to be “hilarious, outrageous and wild” according to the networks’ executives. If you are still a little wary of the concept, just remember that so far we Americans have taken well to various British imports like American Idol and X Factor. What about wacky, off-beat British imports? Think “Benny Hill,” if that doesn’t ring a bell. You’re not old enough to watch wacky off-beat British imports anyway.
