Karaoke that is. If you are one of those people who still think that karaoke is the domain for freaks and geeks; think again. A-List actresses Kate Hudson and Penelope Cruz have both recently admitted to serious karaoke addictions.  Happily, their karaoke habits prepared them very well for their roles in the upcoming Hollywood blockbuster musical “Nine,” which opens this Christmas. Both Kate and Penelope have been making the rounds promoting the film as expected, and in the course of doing that they both separately gushed about karaoke.

Kate Hudson admits that she is a bonafide karaoke diva; “I’m the annoying person at the party who always sings. I just can’t help it,” she tells Contactmusic.com.

Penelope is more of a closet karaoke crooner. She tells Access Hollywood that “I own a karaoke machine! I like doing it when I’m alone because I get shy, singing, which is more pathetic to do karaoke by yourself…You can really stand up and get on top of the sofa and perform the number.”

Cruz is the classic closet crooner dying to break out of the shell. She auditioned for several parts in the movie just to get the chance to be a part of a big production musical, something which is obviously out of her comfort zone. Luckily, she had the support of all her cast members who like her, are huge movie stars but are not known much for singing, like Daniel Day Lewis, Nicole Kidman, and Sophia Loren. Fergie of the Black-Eyed Peas is also on the cast and surely showed the neophytes a thing or two about singing, dancing, and performing. No stranger to karaoke herself, Fergie just recently hosted a Mile-High karaoke session with the group and a lucky fan who got to sing and jam with the band at 30,000 feet.

Unlike Penelope, Kate had no inhibitions about her role in the movie, she says “I’ll sing the national anthem, anything.”
